CHRISTINA LESHER: At the same time, I was caring for my grandfather, who had dementia. My personal experience in caring for my grandfather really helps me on a day-to-day basis. When a client calls and tells me their mom or dad couldn't find their way home from the grocery store, I know what they're talking about. And I'm able to empathize with them and comfort them.
I spent the last ten years working in elder law offices. I started out as a legal assistant in an elder law office in Austin, Texas, while I also was a social worker. I'm still a licensed social worker. And my social work background definitely helps me plan better for clients and look at not only the legal and the financial planning for our families, but we also look at the individual as a whole.
J.P. WILLIS: I have been a client--or my mother has--of Christina's for about three years and very pleased that we found her. And I don't think it was by accident. I think we were supposed to come together with Christina.
CHRISTINA LESHER: I do feel like I'm part of J.P.'s family and that she's part of mine. I'm glad I had the opportunity to work with her and to help her mom.
I practice law as though each client were my own family. So when someone comes in, I think if this was my grandmother or my grandfather or my brother or sister, what would I do for them?
